About 6 months ago a friend of mine proposed the idea of regular friendship meetings. At first I thought the idea was absurd as if we didn’t talk. Then I really thought about the concept and I was sold. I realized my friends and I talked but it was not in great depths about personal things or concerns.

Later in the conversation we moved onto intimate and romantic relationships. Only one of the three of us had a boyfriend at the time and the relationship was kind of rocky. Unfortunately they ended up breaking up later but it was helpful that we both were there to listen to her during her personal crisis.

Somehow we have been programmed to believe that the only way to wealth and success is through the Education system. Now don’t get me wrong, Jobs is still important. We all need to communicate and in order to perform basic daily functions, we need to understand how to communicate, or add and subtract. When did we assume that to become successful we had to have a degree? When did we assume that in order to have your own business you need a business degree?

While some scholarships have a fee to apply, these no essay scholarships are always free. And keep in mind, no legitimate scholarship will require you to pay money in order to receive money. Beware of the scams. The added stress of going back to school and trying to find the money to pay for it can cloud your judgment. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. It’s better to pass on a valid offer than become a victim.

First of all, have a clear picture of what you want to get your advance degree in. Graduate school is far more focused in scope than undergrad. You don’t have wiggle room to try and sample courses. If you haven’t decided on what career path you’ll take, then stay out of school until you do. Grad school is too expensive to play around with if you don’t know what path you want to end up on. To get further clarity on your career choice, speak to someone that has the job you are looking for. They can give you all the tips and pointers to pick the right program for you. Hopefully you can keep them along as a mentor so that you have a contact through school and beyond.

Red flags to watch for: the company you are looking at pays you on sales of marketing tools RED FLAG, or the company is paying you a headhunter fee just for signing up and there is no product or service actually purchased RED FLAG. These are illegal practices and eventually they will be caught. To help separate the scams from the legitimates check the Direct Sellers Association. Legal companies will most likely be members or if they are very young may be applying for membership.

Which means that more and more people are applying to LVN schools these days, making it much tougher than it used to be to get accepted into a program. Will new LVN schools start opening up? Yes, you can bank on it. If they don’t, America’s already critical nursing shortage will get much worse, and the government can’t let that happen. But until more schools start opening up, it’s best not to set your heart on one particular school. In fact, you should probably apply to several just to hedge your bets and be on the safe side.

How do we improve this? Personal opinion: do away with standardized tests in middle and high schools. Hire or train teachers to be educators, not test trainers. Not everyone learns at the same rate, not everyone is good at taking tests, give teachers a choice to let each kid either take a test or write a paper, like they do in college. Writing a paper shows many abilities that taking a multiple choice test won’t show. Give teachers the freedom to make their own tests, which will include the material taught throughout the year, not material thought of by some bureaucrat that has not been in a classroom in twenty years and has no idea what the new generations are about.
